Q. Where do you
live?
A. In Idaho, with my husband and children, Toby—a sixty-pound black lab—and Nakita, recently adopted from the
Humane Society. She's a shepherd/heeler mix, along with something else,
since she's small. I also live
near my family and his. We had our first baby in November, a boy named
Riley.
Q.
How old are you?
A. I'm 30.
Q. Why do you
write?
A. I couldn't not write. I'm lucky that it
comes easy for me, and that my husband has been so supportive of my
career. If I'd had to hold down a real job while trying to write, it
would have taken me a lot longer to achieve any of my goals. Not that
I've accomplished even a fraction of what I hope to.
Q.
Why romance?
A. I've always been drawn to human interaction,
and romances personify that. It might also have something to do with all
the romances I read from the time I was in my early teens. My mother was
the one who got me hooked on them. Romantica™ is a logical extension.
I guess I have a flair for writing about sex. I used to write strictly
contemporary and an occasional historical, but I've discovered the joys
of writing paranormals since coming to be an EC author.
Q.
Is romance all you write?
A. No. I've written children's, horror, drama,
articles, really bad SF/Fantasy, and even worse poetry. I've even
finished an excruciatingly awful screenplay adaptation of one of my
unpublished novels. Screenwriting is much harder than it sounds! Romance
just happens to be where I've had the most success.
Q.
Who is your favorite author?
A. There are several I enjoy, including:
Dean Koontz, Sandra Brown, J.K. Rowling, Julie Garwood, some select
Stephen King, and many other lesser-known authors.
Q.
What are you reading right now?
A. I
haven't had time to read anything recently, other than an unpublished
novel written by a friend.
Q.
What are your vices?
A. Chocolate and sushi, although not together.
Also, prodigious amounts of caffeine via soda ingestion while writing,
although I try to drink mostly water. It's better for you. Sometimes, I get too caught up in research...but Dear Hubby doesn't
mind. He's always willing to lend a hand.
Q.
Favorite movie?
A. There are too many to choose just one, but
I'm not a movie fanatic. I rarely watch one a second time. Some that I
own/have seen several times are The Rock, South Park: The
Movie, Pretty Woman, Home Fries, Save the Last Dance, The Wizard of Oz,
Notting Hill, Deep Impact, and The Stand. Different things
about each movie appeal to me, from the adrenaline of the action
sequences to the ribald, cynical (insightful) observations offered by
the boys of South Park, CO. I very much enjoy dark comedies, but I
couldn't write one to save my life. I have a secret fondness for all
zombie movies, no matter how bad they are. If you know of an obscure
one, please email me the title!
Q.
Worst movie of all time?
A. Do I have to pick just one? How about Kung
Pow? That was the dumbest movie ever, in my opinion. Not only did
the director and writer make a terrible movie, they stole the work of
two other bad movies to make it possible. Sort of a mega-monster of a
bad movie.
Q.
What music do you listen to?
A. I like an eclectic selection of music, from
classical to easy-listening. Not a fan of hard rock or rap. Country is
all right, depending on the song.
Q.
What do you do in your free time?
A. What's free time? Seriously, when I have
some, I enjoy golf, traveling, reading, cycling, cooking (especially
exotic foods), sewing, and walking with my husband and
kiddos along the Greenbelt, which is very near our home. It's a
touch of the wild in the city.
Q.
Any pet peeves?
A. Several, but I don't want to seem like a
whiner. I'll settle for listing just one, which is misused possessive
apostrophes in signs. These people are professionals. They should know
better!
