Read Amy Turpin's article about Romantica for greater detail regarding what the genre is, and why it's so popular. If someone had told me a few years ago that I would be writing Romantica™, I would have laughed at them. I've always been drawn to romances, but years of reading conventional offerings taught me to "gloss over" the good parts. I honestly thought women who read romances didn't want to read about the sex between the characters. Like many people, I had never read erotica and assumed it was just a politer term for pornography, which, by my definition, is plot-what-plot, strung together with multiple sex scenes. Shortly before my first book came out with Ellora's Cave, I began to read erotic romances, because a fellow writer had heard the market was booming. Imagine my surprise when I discovered these books had plots, emotional connections between the characters, AND explicit sexual situations. It was the best of both worlds, and I knew I had to write one. PLAYING HIS GAME is the result of my first attempt, and also my first book accepted by Ellora's Cave—but certainly not the last. I've written many genres and sub-genres over the years, but I now know erotic romance is one of the most fun to read and write. I plan to spend a long career with my various publishers melding sex and romance into strong plots filled with interesting characters. Last updated 05/03/2008. This site is best viewed at 1024x768.
